Mission Work in northeast India

Bible College Students 2007
In the early 1960's Ray McMillan was a student at the University of Saskatchewan and a member of the Saskatoon Church of Christ. When he decided to go to India as a Missionary in 1963 the congregation did what it could to encourage him in that ministry. In 1968 Bob & Sharon Parker accompanied Ray & Ellen McMillan to Northeast India to start a Bible Training School . The McMillans and Parkers spent the next several years living in India and developing the school which continued for 25 years.

Since retiring from full time ministry with the Glen Elm Church of Christ in Regina in 2004, Ray and Ellen have spent eight months of each year in NE India. In the summer of 2007 the Saskatoon Church of Christ agreed to be the sponsoring church for the Work Fund money required by the McMillans. We budget mission funds to assist in this effort and receive and receipt donations from other sources for this work.

Since 1995 the Saskatoon Church of Christ has sent Mission Teams to NE India every two years to encourage the young Christians and churches in this isolated part of the world. In addition to helping support these short term mission teams our congregation also supports one local preacher in NE India and contributes significantly to the Bread of Life Bible correspondence course work that has been going on there since 2005. Also, in the summer of 2007 we had a special giving Sunday to help purchase property in Guwahati where Shyam Salam has started a Primary School and where, eventually, the McMillans will operate their Bible School.

So, for the past four decades, our congregation has actively supported this mission work through prayer, encouragement and financial assistance. The message of the cross continues to impact many lives in Northeast India through the joint ministry of Canadians and Indian Nationals working together.
