Not everyone who heard about Jesus was excited about it. The Apostle Paul started out as one of Christianity’s staunchest opponents. However, Jesus didn’t write him off, He continued to offer the invitation until Paul eventually decided to follow.

James & John represent those who quickly and eagerly accept the invitation of Jesus. At the same time they are a great example of recognizing that there are sacrifices to be made when choosing to follow Jesus, and the wise person counts those costs up front.

As Jesus talks to the Samaritan woman at the well he reveals to her that he is the source of living water and unending refreshing.

With powerful imagery Jesus declares “I am the Good Shepherd” and paints for us a picture of His constant loving care and protection.

In a culture of relativity more than ever we need to hear Jesus declare “I am Truth” and learn to base our reality on this solid foundation.

In a time of unparalleled independence and individuality we must listen to Jesus declare “I am the Vine” and recommit to reconnect with our source of all things.

The theme of light is a constant in God’s interaction with people and climaxes as Jesus declares “I am the Light of the World” and we are given the choice to come into the presence of God or turn our backs on Him.

Prayer can take on many different forms, postures and sounds. An active prayer life is essential to healthy spirituality, but it is also, paradoxically, one of the easiest things to neglect.

Prayer always begins with recognizing who God is and what God has done. This realization shapes and colors everything that follows.

Jesus often talked about the Kingdom of God. To Him it was not a hypothetical far off place, but something that could be experienced in the here and now.
