In the birth of Jesus God did something astonishing. Has the Christmas story lost the wow-factor it genuinely deserves?

The notion that Christ’s return is far off in the future lulls us into a sense of complacency. But this time of waiting in not a time for doing nothing, it is an opportunity to accomplish the purposes of Christ in our lives and in our world.

The arrival of Jesus is not an exam we can cram for at the last minute. Partly because we do not know which minute will be the last, but more importantly because the only way to be ready for Christ’s arrival is to prepare for it each and every day.

In the birth of Jesus, God was about to do something incredible, but no one was ready for it. Are we ready to participate in the things God wants to do in our lives now?

In the birth of Jesus God became present among us. Are we fully present in the lives of those around us?

Our greatest tool in drawing people back toward God is by sharing the love and compassion of Christ with those around us on God’s behalf.

If God’s reason for delaying Christ’s return is the desire to see everyone have their relationship with Him be restored, then our mission while we wait is to work toward that same end.
